Affect started as a project by students at the University of Oxford as an attempt to bridge the divide between academia and popular discourse. Our motivation to create the journal was a desire to create a community of like-minded people, whose academic interests extend beyond the bounds of university or conventional scholarship, whilst drawing inspiration from a range of contemporary discourses within the academy.

Affect aims to provide both an outlet and an inspiration for scholars, journalists, artists and writers who share an avid interest in the contemporary political, geographical and social landscape, and a desire to bring about change. As such, the project reflects a frustration with the often parochial and conservative nature of inter-university exchanges, in which funding, departmental goals and the pressure for policy relevance inherently restrict creative freedom. This project aims to dismantle institutional bias, and create a platform for freedom of expression, whilst retaining the rigour of academic research.

Affect has a mailing list and regular newsletter. Authors and readers alike use this for discussion and news. To sign up, please visit this page and follow the instructions.

The current editorial board are all graduates of the Universities of Oxford or Cambridge and bring a broad range of experiences and interests to Affect.
