Affect aims to bridge the divide between academia, journalism and the arts through contributions that are informative or offer a fresh perspective. As such, we welcome submissions that employ a variety of forms including writing, images or videos. The journal aims to appeal to a broad audience including academics, graduates, undergraduates, and others with an interest in contemporary social analysis, and so accessibility is key.

Affect places emphasis on strength and originality of argument, and whilst encouraging academic rigour, also welcomes polemical articles and submissions. We are also excited to incite debate within our assembled community, and wish to encourage alternative readings of political or geographical events, and responses to particular articles published.

Articles for submission can be anywhere between 200 and 5000 words in length and need not conform to a particular style or mode of expression. We are also keen to encourage the submission of book reviews and accessible summaries of broader research or trends which can include both the work of the contributors themselves and of others in the social sciences and beyond.

The journal is an online project and our issues will be published on this website. We hope that this will allow flexibility of form, beyond the written document.

Please see our Future Themes page for information about forthcoming publications. Please do not interpret these as limiting, or discouraging submission of work; the editors wish to encourage high quality work from a range of topic areas, themes and styles.

If you are interested in Affect, but not in a position to submit a formal contribution, please sign up to our mailing list.
