Affect aims
to bridge the divide between academic and journalistic writing. As
such, we welcome articles that are well written, engaging and that
appeal to a broad audience including academics, undergraduates, and
others with an interest in contemporary social analysis. Affect
places emphasis on strength and originality of argument, and whilst
encouraging academic rigour and extensive referencing, also welcomes
polemical articles. We are also excited to incite debate within our
assembled community, and encourage alternative readings of political or
geographical events, and responses to particular articles published.
We welcome a variety of submissions, including those not limited to
conventional essay form. For those submitting essays, there is a word
limit of 5000, to encourage brevity and cogency of argument. We would
like to stress that shorter articles of 500-2000 words are welcomed by
Affect, particularly those written in response to geopolitical
events, or particular academic debates. In the case of those interested
in submitting extended pieces of research such as dissertations or
theses, Affect is primarily concerned with strength and
originality of argument, so would welcome shorter articles based on
broader studies. The journal is primarily an online project and as such
our first issues will be published on our website in pdf format. If
demand and funding permit, we shall consider producing print copies of
the journal in the future.
Please see our Future
Themes page
for information about forthcoming publications. Please do not interpret
these as limiting, or discouraging submission of work; the editors wish
to encourage high quality work from a range of topic areas, themes and
styles.
If you are considering submitting an article but are not quite ready,
feel free to sign up to our mailing list.
